Intel Boosts Dow In Mixed Premarket Session, These 2 China Names Jump | Stock News & Stock Market Analysis

Small caps lagged while stock futures for the Dow, S&P 500 and the Nasdaq pushed into narrow gains early Tuesday,

XFutures for the Dow Jones industrial average traded 0.2% above fair value, while Nasdaq 100 futures added 0.1% and futures for the S&P 500 struggled to hold an incremental gain. Futures for the Russell 2000, a gauge of small cap activity, slipped a fraction into the red.

Intel Pledges January Security Fix; China Stocks In Motion

Intel (INTC) rose 0.5% to lead the Dow and kick off a mixed premarket session for chip stocks. Chief Executive Brian Kryzanich pledged at Monday’s keynote speech to the CES 2018 confab in Las Vegas that the company would provides fixes this month for the vulnerabilities labeled  Meltdown and Spectre, covering all processors produced within the past five years.

Intel shares fell hard last week upon discovery of the security glitches, sending shares below support at their 10-week moving average. Intel rival Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), a key beneficiary of Intel’s problems, traded down more than 4% early Tuesday.

Amazon.com (AMZN) led the FANG stocks, up 0.6%. The IBD Leaderboard stock is looking to add a sixth day to its recent rally, but remains in a buy range above a 1213.51 buy point in a late-stage flat base.

Mazor Robotics (MZOR) was up 3% in premarket action. The maker of automated surgical guidance systems spiked 8% in early trade Monday, then narrowed that gain to 1% and ended tight against its 10-week line. The company reported its sold 27 robotic surgical systems in the fourth quarter, 23 of those through a newly implemented agreement with Medtronic (MDT). Mazor is in a seven-month saucer base with an 89.82 buy point.

IBD 50 stock China Lodging Group (HTHT) swung up 2.8%. The stock is extended after clearing a 142.90 buy point in a late-stage cup base on Dec. 29.

Other China names were also in premarket motion, with Daqo New Energy (DQ) rebounding almost 4%, following a 14% dive on Monday after announcing the exit of its chief executive. Autohome (ATHM) shed 2.6% in the early going. The IBD Leaderboard stock is extended after a five-week advance that included a breakout from a four month base pattern.

Small Business Optimism Eases; Global Stock Markets Trade higher

The National Federation of Independent Business reported its Small Business Optimism Index dropped 2.6 points in December, but remained at 104.9 – still near record highs for the 45-year old survey.

The Labor Department’s Job Openings And Labor Turnover Survey is due out at 10 a.m. ET. Minnesota Federal Reserve Bank President Neel Kashkari is also scheduled to speak at 10 a.m.

Asia’s markets turned in a strong session Tuesday, with Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 returning from a holiday weekend with a 0.6% gain. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index climbed 0.4% in an eleventh-straight advance.

Europe’s markets were firmly higher near mid-session, with the CAC-40 in Paris staking out teh high ground, up 0.5%, followed by London’s FTSE 100 with a 0.4% gain and a 0.2% advance for Frankfurt’s DAX.
